World class UAS piloting and autonomous system integration and testing
World class UAS piloting and autonomous system integration and testing
With years of experience in both conventional and experimental UAS vehicle piloting, testing, and regulatory support, Maximum UAS has the expertise you need to maximize the efficiency and return on investment from your commercial UAS operations.
MaximumUAS was founded by Louis Joshua "Josh" Glaab and leverages his highly-unique skills and experience acquired through a lifetime of Radio Control (R/C) and full-scale aircraft flying combined with a 39-year career at NASA Langley Research Center. Known as Josh Glaab in the R/C soaring community and Lou Glaab in the working world, his knowledge of small uncrewed aerial system (sUAS) flight is unparalleled.
Josh has been flying Radio Controlled (R/C) model aircraft since 1973 and has been active in R/C Soaring competition at regional, national, and international levels. He is a multi-time National Champion and was a team pilot for the 2022 World Champion US F3J Team that competed in Levice, Slovakia.
Lou joined NASA in 1986 and has had a tremendous career that includes: flight dynamics and flight controls, piloted simulation and flight testing, human factors in support of synthetic and external vision systems, entry descent and landing technologies, system identification, and extensive experience with advanced integrated autonomous system UAS research flight test operations including actual beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations and state-of-art eVTOL subscale research flight testing. Lou retired from NASA Langley Research Center in July of 2025.
The success of your project is paramount! We provide a range of services to help plan your UAS flight vehicle development, ground testing, pre-flight prep, autonomous system integration, safety risk assessment, safety case development, data analysis, control system development, and world-class piloting.

In the world of manned aircraft, there are ratings, logged hours, Type Certifications, Test Pilots Schools, etc. In the world of UAS flying there is none of that, except for one thing: competition. Competition is both the catalyst to drive pilot skill development as well as the discriminator.
US F3J Team Wins Gold! Josh Glaab Team Pilot. Fifth overaIl in Fly Offs. Competing at the international level is the epitome of R/C and UAS Piloting.
In general, monkeys and small children can pilot the latest generation ready to fly multi rotor flying cameras. But what about during development, when a system fails and the only way home is flying a dot in a challenging manual mode without breaking your altitude limit. That is when high-caliber UAS pilots are essential.
Through blending decades of R/C competition with an extensive career at NASA performing state-of-the-art integrated UAS testing, Maximum UAS can deliver.
Soloing at the age of 15 in sailplanes, the hook was set. Aeronautics and aviation was the pathway. Photo here is completing my 5 hour Silver Duration Flight, Easter Sunday, 1981. Earned my Private Pilots License in 1981 and Instrument Rating in 1990.
At the request of my good friend Mat Takallu (in the backseat) I joined Tidewater Soaring Society in 2012 earning my FAA Certificated Flight Instructors Certificate in 2015
I retired from NASA on 7/11/2025 through the Deferred Resignation Program and am open for business.
BS Aerospace Engineering Degree from the University of New York at Buffalo, 1986.
MS Aeronautical Engineering from the George Washington University, 1988.
Too many things to list but here are some highlights:
